We are now recruiting a Deputy Supervisor to support the leadership of a skilled team of rolling stock technicians at our Bedford Cauldwell Traincare Depot. In this role, you will be instrumental in implementing the maintenance plan, ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of the Class 360/1 Desiro fleet for passenger services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a dedicated team in meeting and exceeding the daily Train Service Agreement; take ownership of delivering quality work in a safe, efficient manner and foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Focus on driving productivity and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support the continuous growth and development of your team, cultivating a work environment that prioritises performance and collaboration.
  • Resource Management: Plan and manage resources—people, materials, tools, and services—to meet daily operational needs and improve efficiency.
  • Production Implementation: Implement production plans to achieve business goals and minimise deferred work.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Ensure maintenance activities align with standards and are conducted as per relevant instructions.
  • Shift Coverage: Optimise shift coverage to reduce downtime and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Customer Relations: Understand and address customer requirements, keeping plans updated and maintaining relationships.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous improvement, empowering team members to implement beneficial changes.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Implement safe systems, communicate health and safety responsibilities, and promote a zero-harm culture.
  • Financial Management: Make service decisions aligned with contract deliverables, monitor efficiency, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Leadership and Engagement: Demonstrate Siemens management standards, cultivate a high-performance culture, and engage employees effectively.
  • Performance Monitoring: Supervise team performance, provide feedback, and communicate business information to drive improvements.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Leadership experience within a rolling stock or vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Technical knowledge of rolling stock maintenance procedures/practices.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems/software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both written and oral.
  • Strong organisation/planning skills.
  • Good understanding of health, safety and environment requirements.
  • Engineering ONC or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement principles.
  • Contract/Commercial knowledge.
