Job Overview

This is a senior-level R&D electronics design role within a highly collaborative hardware team, focused on developing advanced electronic systems used in regulated medical technology environments.

As a Senior or Principal Engineer, you will take technical ownership across key areas of development, influencing architecture, guiding best practice, and supporting the team in delivering high-quality, robust designs.

You'll work across the full product lifecycle—from concept and system definition through to verification, validation, and production—and also shape the future capability of the group.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronic systems from concept through to production.
  • Define architectures and make key technical decisions that balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Create schematics, select components, and drive design for reliability, compliance, and scalability.
  • Prototype, test, and debug complex hardware using standard and advanced laboratory equipment.
  • Contribute deep expertise in low‑noise analogue design and high‑integrity data acquisition systems.
  • Collaborate closely with software, systems, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in regulated development, including EMC/EMI strategy and risk‑based design (e. g., FMEA).
  • Lead or contribute significantly to design reviews, ensuring high engineering standards are upheld.
  • Mentor and support other engineers, foster knowledge sharing and build long‑term team capability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tools, and methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in analogue and digital electronics design, including complex mixed‑signal systems.
  • A proven track record of delivering end‑to‑end hardware designs in a commercial or regulated environment (Medical such as IEC60601 is advantageous but not essential).
  • Strong hands‑on experience in prototyping, testing, debugging, and root cause analysis.
  • Expertise in schematic capture and PCB design using industry‑standard tools (e. g., Mentor Graphics, Altium, Ki Cad or similar).
  • Experience operating within regulated industries such as medical devices, automotive, aerospace, or other safety‑critical sectors.
  • Deep understanding of EMC/EMI principles and pragmatic application of risk‑based engineering approaches.
  • Familiarity with embedded and digital systems (e. g., FPGA, embedded software, IC, SPI, CAN).
  • Strong technical judgement, with the ability to guide decisions and influence across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable explaining complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach, with a passion for mentoring and developing others.
  • A continuous learning mindset, with the drive to advance both your own expertise and that of the wider team.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary
  • 26 days annual leave, with the option to buy up to 10 days and sell up to 5
  • Up to 10% matched pension contributions
  • BUPA Private Medical Insurance
  • Bonus & Share Save Scheme
