A Snapshot of Your Day As a Principal Control Engineer, your day will involve leading a team of Control, Config, and FAT engineers to ensure a proficient workforce. You\’ll define policies and processes to align with our outstanding Engineering strategy, plan and prioritise budgets for engineering projects, and drive the development of technical standards and procedures. Coordinating design validation for secondary engineering solutions, you\’ll ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of departmental work packages while promoting a \”Right first time\” culture and business improvement programs like T2W and Top+. Supporting validation and factory acceptance testing of engineered solutions, ensuring technical compliance with external design companies, identifying and controlling design risks to follow Health and Safety legislation, and implementing a mentoring process and training matrix for the department will round out your day. - Leadership & Development: Lead and develop a team of Control, Config, and FAT engineers, ensuring a proficient workforce through mentoring and training.
- Strategy & Resource Management: Define policies and processes to align with the superior Engineering strategy, and plan and allocate resources and budgets for engineering projects.
- Technical Standards & Design Validation: Drive the development of technical standards and procedures, and supervise design validation for secondary engineering solutions.
- Project Management & Efficiency: Ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of departmental work packages, promoting a \”Right first time\” culture and business improvement programs like T2W and Top+.
- Performance & Process Improvement: Implement critical metrics to monitor performance, continuously review and improve engineering processes, and manage the NCR system to minimize rework.
- Collaboration & Compliance: Ensure collaborative work with all engineering departments and project managers, enforce to business compliance requirements, and ensure technical compliance with external design companies and Health and Safety legislation.
What You Bring
- Professional managerial experience with extensive experience in the Transmission, Distribution or Renewables Industry.
- A degree/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering standards applicable to National Grid, DNOs and Renewables projects in the UK.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal presentation skills
- Solid understanding of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent written English
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
