A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Plant Maintenance Electrician within our Machine Maintenance team, you will play an important role in keeping our manufacturing operations at Ruston Works and Teal Park running safely and reliably.

Your day will involve diagnosing and repairing electrical faults across a wide range of industrial machinery, including CNC and PLC-controlled equipment, alongside carrying out planned and preventative maintenance to minimise disruption to production. You will also support the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical equipment and help develop less experienced members of the maintenance team.

This is a hands‑on role suited to an experienced, time‑served electrician who is comfortable fault‑finding independently within a busy manufacturing environment.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair complex electrical faults across industrial plant and production machinery, including CNC and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems, switchgear, control panels and associated building infrastructure to improve equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Install, test and commission new electrical equipment and systems, interpreting engineering drawings, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to complete work safely and accurately.
  • Test and calibrate electrical equipment and control systems, completing inspections, maintenance records and detailed service documentation.
  • Ensure electrical activities comply with relevant UK electrical safety requirements, including BS 7671, alongside Siemens Energy safety procedures and policies.
  • Provide technical support and practical guidance to apprentices and less experienced maintenance colleagues while identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance processes.

What You Bring

  • Completion of a recognised electrical apprenticeship, such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services, or an equivalent electrical qualification, supported by significant post‑apprenticeship experience.
  • Strong experience as a Maintenance Electrician within an industrial, manufacturing or production environment, with the ability to work effectively under limited supervision.
  • Proven fault‑finding and diagnostic experience across complex production machinery, electrical control systems and PLC‑controlled equipment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of preventative maintenance, electrical wiring, control panels, switchgear, circuit breakers and associated industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to confidently interpret electrical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams and use appropriate electrical test equipment to diagnose faults.
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing, or an equivalent qualification, would be advantageous.
