As an Electrical and Electronic Engineering Trainee, you will be based out of our Manchester Office. This opportunity represents a growth period for Siemens Energy – Grid Technologies, offering excellent opportunities to be part of our engineering development programme.
Please note that this role requires you to attend Manchester Metropolitan University on a weekly one-day release to complete the BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree, which will be fully funded by Siemens Energy.

How You’ll Make an Impact:
An Electrical and Electronic Engineer will design networks comprising advanced intelligent devices using modern Ethernet protocols such as IEC61850 to interconnect systems required to protect a substation. The engineer will also design the configuration and settings of the intelligent devices, test these configurations within a laboratory environment, and assist with the installation and commissioning of the products both on- and offshore.
The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with knowledge of Cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches and routers.
- Design and optimise projects to ensure they deliver on value, efficiency, and footprint.
- Gain experience in the technology and construction methods utilised in the business.
- Work closely with Senior Design Engineers and Project Managers for hands-on experience.
- Develop key technology and toolset skills in design, visualisation, and construction techniques.
What You Bring:
- A minimum of 3 A Levels at grade ABB (or equivalent), including at least one grade A in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics, or Pure Mathematics.
- GCSEs at grade A or above / grade 7 to 9 (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
- Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery.
- Enjoyment of working within a team environment.
- Relevant industrial experience (e.g., summer placements) is beneficial but not essential.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Confidence in communication and proactive problem-solving skills.
About the Team:
You will join a team of electrical equipment protection engineers responsible for ensuring that when a fault occurs within the substation, special protection systems protect personnel and the public, minimising damage to remaining substation components.
