Job Responsibilities
As an Assistant Bid Manager/Estimator for Civil works, you start your day by collaborating with the Civil Pre Construction Manager to manage the civil scope for electricity transmission substations and high voltage direct current interconnector convertor stations. You are responsible for overseeing all tender phases up to the handover to the execution team. Together with the Pre Construction Manager, you act as the primary point of contact for the Tender Team and subcontractors, addressing all construction-related matters.
Your day involves preparing detailed estimates for civil engineering and building works, ensuring they align with the company's bidding and estimating systems and procedures. You collaborate with other members of the tendering and engineering teams to build solutions that align with customer and company goals.
Throughout the day, you collaborate with various partners, including Business Management, Operations Management, the Head of Civil Engineering, Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Functional Managers, Commercial Management, Engineers and Designers, Project Controllers, finance teams, Procurement specialists, Buyers, Clients, Project Partners, and Third Parties such as statutory bodies and undertakers.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Support Pre Construction Manager and Civil Bid Managers.
- Evaluate customer specifications and create implementation concepts.
- Develop and refine Civil Works RFQ packages and calculation tools.
- Coordinate with teams like plant design, building services, and purchasing.
- Conduct technical reviews and prepare estimates for civil engineering works.
- Identify and record opportunities and risks during tenders.
- Collaborate with business management and other collaborators to agree on strategies.
- Maintain registers of assumptions and detailed tender documentation.
- Produce cost plans for business development and budget submissions.
- Obtain feedback on estimating adequacy and update estimates as needed.
- Prepare and maintain estimating handover packs and support project teams.
- Aim to win work, develop consistent tender submissions, and generate client confidence.
What You'll Bring:
- Strong communication skills and a proactive demeanour.
- Experience within a bid team and/or commercial setting.
- Experience working as part of a Project Delivery Team.
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, or relevant experience with HNC/HND in a Building/Civil Engineering/Construction field.
- 5+ years of experience in at least one project-related field (Civil Engineering, Building Construction, etc.).
- Strong knowledge and understanding of civil/building design and construction methodology.
- Assertive and strong personality.
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
- Good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015.
- Good environmental awareness.
- Working toward professional membership in one or more of the following: CEng/IEng with the Institute of Civil Engineers, MCIOB/ICIOB with the Chartered Institute of Building, MRICS/AssocRICS- Construction Pathways.
Desirable:
- Infrastructure experience in sectors such as power (substations, power generation) or water.
- Knowledge of building services.
