We are looking for Power Converter Control & Software Engineers who wish to work in the field of power converter control and develop new control systems for the next generation of large multi‑megawatt wind turbines. Located in our Glasgow city centre offices, the successful candidates will find themselves working with experienced engineers to specify, implement, test, and deploy power converter control systems for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy wind turbines. We are locally a small team, working closely with other teams across the UK, Denmark and worldwide.
Depending on qualifications and experience, these development engineer roles allow the successful candidates to participate in all aspects of the development of new control systems, right through from simulation and laboratory testing to turbine and windfarm level testing, and in future support the deployment across the global fleet.
Key tasks:- You will design, develop, and implement new control features in line with our software quality and test processes.
- Review relevant requirements, standards, and other documentation to clarify and understand the engineering requirements.
- Occasionally you will be requested to complete remote site investigations and troubleshooting for our electrical systems worldwide.
Passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change. We are also looking for:
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical topics clearly and concisely.
- A Bachelor’s degree which includes a significant proportion of electrical and electronic engineering.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to take the initiative in finding innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
These positions are open to both recently qualified graduate engineers with an interest and academic background in some/all the technical areas listed below, or experienced engineers at all levels who have experience in any of the following:
- Power electronic converter design and control.
- Control theory and application.
- Time and/or frequency domain modelling on platforms such as MATLAB Simulink, RSCAD (software package), Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS).
- 3‑phase power systems analysis.
- Grid forming control systems and power system simulation.
- Real time embedded control and implementation.
