As an Onshore Wind Turbine Service Technician Apprentice, you will pursue a level 3 qualification (equivalent to NVQ). The course is titled: Maintenance Operations & Engineering Technician. You will receive training in all facets of the wind turbine service technician role, including industry standard safety training and safe ways of working.
During the first year of your apprenticeship, your primary base will be at our partner training provider located in Scunthorpe where you will undertake General Electrical / Mechanical training in both practical and theory-based sessions. In years 2 & 3, your learning will primarily be hands-on experience working with our service team on site, at the site you have been recruited to work on.
How You’ll Make An Impact
As a service technician, you will be responsible for executing ordinary and extraordinary maintenance and troubleshooting inside the wind turbines. The main tasks of the service technician are to perform mainly pre-defined technical tasks, for example, integration of components to a system, basic engineering, maintenance jobs, and support customers remotely and onsite. The service technician will coordinate and accomplish defined service operations and/or resolve product issues for customers' equipment. You will troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components. You will complete critical safety and quality documentation and work within our safety procedures.
What You Bring
- x3 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 4/C or above which must include Mathematics, English Language and Science.
- You must live within a 45-minute drive from East Ayrshire (KA6 7QA or KA3 6EX).
- You must hold a full UK driving license before an offer of employment can be issued to you.
- You must be at least 18 years old by September 2026.
- Be comfortable with and able to work at heights.
- Be happy to work shifts.
- A strong enthusiasm and long-term commitment to the apprenticeship and the company.
- Genuine interest in engineering, technology, and the environment with good basic manual skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
What Else Do I Need to Know?
If your application is successful, you will be offered an initial 42-month fixed term contract of employment, subject to you successfully passing:
- A practical ‘Working at Heights’ assessment
- A medical and fitness test
- Evidence of valid right to work documentation, a driving license and relevant exam certifications.
