A Snapshot of Your Day

Siemens Energy is building a dedicated UK team to support the growing offshore renewable and HVDC interconnector market. This role leads a team of engineers delivering HVDC control and DC protection solutions for wind farm connections and interconnectors. Key responsibilities include design validation, managing engineering work packages, and promoting a “Right first time” culture through mentoring and process improvement.

Reporting to both UK and global department heads, the role involves managing up to 10 engineers, developing HVDC control and protection concepts, and coordinating innovative solutions. It also includes resource planning, employee training, and contributing to a globally integrated delivery model.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Lead and develop a team of up to 10 engineers focused on HVDC control and DC protection, including resource planning, mentoring, and training.
  • Oversee technical delivery of DC Protection solutions across international HVDC projects, ensuring alignment with cost, time, and quality targets.
  • Define and coordinate innovative control and protection concepts for HVDC systems in collaboration with global technical teams.
  • Manage simulation studies using tools like PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, and LabVIEW, including model development, validation, and customer training.
  • Support project management through technical discussions, customer engagement, and coordination with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote continuous improvement across engineering processes, ensure compliance with safety standards, and drive collaboration across departments.

What You Bring

  • Degree in electrical power or control engineering, ideally with a relevant MSc or PhD and industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage applications, power transmission, power electronics, and HVDC systems.
  • Expertise in control engineering and HVDC system modelling in both time and frequency domains.
  • Proficient in power system simulation tools such as PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink, and EMTP-RV.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for customer engagement and collaboration.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); German language skills are a plus.
