A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Primary Engineering Level 6 Degree Apprentice you will be based out of our Newcastle Office. This exciting new opportunity represents a growth period for Siemens Energy Grid Technologies Substations and offers excellent opportunities to be part of our fantastic Apprenticeship programme. We have several engineering degree apprenticeships available within Siemens Energy, and this opportunity will be supporting our Primary Engineering team. Alongside your full‑time work, you will be working towards a L6 BEng Product Design and Development Engineer at Newcastle University. If you enjoy problem solving, thinking outside of the box, working within a high energy team and can react quickly to changes, then a career as a Design Engineer at Siemens Energy could be a great fit for you!

How You’ll Make An Impact

A Primary Engineer will develop conceptual designs of onshore High Voltage Transmission Substations, producing layouts and elevations from 3D software with supporting calculations. The role will develop a strong appreciation of safe working solutions for use through the Substation lifecycle. Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint. A design engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes. Gain experience in the technology and construction methods utilised in the business. Gain first‑hand exposure to the role by working closely with Senior Design Engineers, Project Managers and other stakeholders. Develop key technology and toolset skills in design, visualisation and construction techniques.

What You Bring

  • 3 A Levels at grade BBC or above (or equivalent) including Maths.
  • GCSE minimum requirement – Maths, English and an additional STEM subject at grade 5 or above (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Enthusiasm for a career in the Energy sector.
  • A self‑motivated individual who also enjoys working within a team environment.
  • Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
  • It would be beneficial for applicants to have some relevant work experience e.g. part‑time job / voluntary work.

About The Team

Within this Engineering role, you will join a team of electrical and mechanical primary engineers whose responsibility it is to ensure that the substation design meets the client’s network, operational and safety requirements and is compliant with UK and international standards.
