Your day will involve diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out emergency repairs and completing planned and preventative maintenance across a wide range of industrial plant and production machinery. You will work on equipment including CNC machines, lathes, mills and associated mechanical systems, using your experience to identify problems and restore equipment to operation as efficiently as possible. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced, time-served Mechanical Fitter who is confident working independently on complex machinery while also sharing knowledge with less experienced colleagues. How You’ll Make an Impact Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical faults across industrial plant and production machinery, including CNC machines, lathes and mills, carrying out repairs to minimise production downtime. Complete planned, preventative and predictive maintenance activities, identifying developing equipment issues before they result in breakdowns or disruption to manufacturing. Service and maintain mechanical equipment through activities including cleaning, lubrication, alignment, adjustment and replacement of worn or defective components. Install, level, align and commission new or relocated machinery and equipment in accordance with engineering requirements and site safety procedures. Work across mechanical systems including hydraulics and pneumatics, using appropriate tools, lifting equipment and diagnostic techniques to safely complete maintenance activities. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records, comply with all Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and provide practical guidance to apprentices and less experienced colleagues. What You Bring Completion of a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, such as an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, supported by significant post-apprenticeship experience. Strong experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Fitter within an industrial, manufacturing or plant maintenance environment. Proven hands-on experience diagnosing, fault-finding and repairing complex industrial or production machinery, with the ability to work effectively under limited supervision. Practical knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance, mechanical alignment, hydraulics, pneumatics and the installation or relocation of industrial machinery. Strong understanding of safe working practices within an industrial environment, with the ability to use hand tools, power tools, lifting and hoisting equipment appropriately. A forklift licence would be advantageous. A proactive and methodical approach to problem solving, with good communication skills and the ability to support and guide apprentices or less experienced maintenance colleagues.
