A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Contract Support Performance Engineer within the Small Gas Turbines Performance and Thermodynamics Group in Lincoln, you will help define how Siemens Energy gas turbines are configured and controlled for customer contracts. Your work will focus on specifying core engine control settings, operational philosophies and contract-specific requirements from bid stage through to acceptance testing. You will work as part of a specialist performance team that supports Sales, Bids and Proposals, Core Engineering, Manufacturing, Test and Customer Support. The team is responsible for predicting installed engine performance, assessing engine performance during production and development testing, validating test results and developing performance assessment methods and software. This role would suit an early career engineer or developing engineer with strong mathematical, data analysis and software skills who wants to build specialist knowledge in gas turbine performance, thermodynamics and controls. Gas turbine experience is not essential, as product training will be provided, but an interest in the product and an understanding of thermodynamics would be valuable.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Specify core engine controls settings and operational philosophies for customer contracts, supporting activity from bid stage through to customer delivery and acceptance testing.
  • Develop and maintain contract controls specifications, settings documentation, limits and settings databases, ensuring clear requirements are delivered alongside the physical asset.
  • Support assessment of engine performance, validation of production and development test results, and prediction of site-installed performance for Small Gas Turbine products.
  • Work with Sales, Bids and Proposals, Core Engineering, Test and R&D teams to align engine models, support validation testing and provide performance expertise across the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to development and automation of performance assessment, prediction methods, data analysis tools and supporting software.
  • Manage complex engineering documentation and approvals while communicating technical information clearly to internal teams, customers and management.

What You Bring

  • A Masters-level qualification or above in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related discipline, ideally at 2:1 level or above, or equivalent relevant industrial experience.
  • Strong background in mathematics, physics, numerical analysis and statistical investigation, with proven ability to analyse large technical datasets.
  • Understanding of gas turbine simple cycle operation and the ability to carry out basic thermodynamic calculations, or a clear willingness to develop this knowledge.
  • Experience with engineering software, data analysis tools or programming, ideally including one or more of VBA, MATLAB, C#, FORTRAN or Visual Basic.
  • Experience or interest in prediction modelling, database management, process automation, performance testing, instrumentation limitations or controls specification.
  • Strong communication, report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a project team under deadline pressure.
