A Snapshot of Your Day Siemens Energy is now recruiting for its 2026 graduate intake. We have a number of exciting new opportunities which represent a continued growth period for Siemens Energy Grid Technologies and offer excellent opportunities to be part of our development team. If you enjoy problem solving, thinking outside of the box, working within a high energy team and can react quickly to changes, then a career as an Engineer at Siemens Energy could be a great fit for you! How You’ll Make An Impact As a power systems engineer, you will join a large HVDC project engineering team delivering both station to station and station to offshore projects within the UK and beyond. You will be responsible for the study and simulation of the control and protection systems controlling the HVDC infrastructure. Initially you will study the effects of the infrastructure on the electricity network it is connected to and the interaction with other power generation systems in the locality. You will then proceed to simulate the HVDC systems to ensure that designed solutions operate as expected when exposed to a variety of network fault and running conditions making use of our real‑time simulation equipment within our HVDC laboratories. As a power systems engineer you will need to be prepared to continue to learn new tools, techniques and methods throughout your career, and an agile approach is key to success. After a generalisation phase you will then specialise into a specific role within the team. Some example roles include system studies engineer, real‑time simulation engineer, DC controls engineer, and DC protection engineer. Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint. An engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes. You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on the job activities at Siemens Energy. What You Bring An MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Power System Engineering or a higher qualification (PhD or MSc) in the above with a supporting engineering degree. 3 A Levels (or equivalent) preferably including Maths and Science. Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery. A passion to work within an agile team environment. It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience e.g. summer placements or internships. Must be flexible and adaptable. Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver. About The Team Our Grid Technologies division enables a reliable, sustainable, and digital grid.
