A Snapshot of Your Day
As an Operational Control Engineer within the Grid Technologies Service Engineering team, this role supports customers across the full lifecycle of control and operational technology systems. The position focuses on responding to technical incidents, delivering enhancements to live systems, and supporting customers under service and warranty agreements. Working closely with colleagues, customers, and suppliers, the role combines hands‐on technical support with system administration, cyber security compliance, and continuous improvement activities. There are opportunities to develop technical expertise through mentoring, training, and practical experience, while contributing to reliable and secure operation of HVDC, FACTS, and wind farm projects.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Deliver, maintain, and support operational control and IT infrastructure systems for HVDC, FACTS, and wind farm projects to ensure reliable and secure operation.
- Administer and maintain Windows‐based and Linux‐based systems, including system configuration, access control, monitoring, backup, and recovery activities.
- Perform routine monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem resolution to maximise system availability and performance for customers.
- Support system integration, testing, and commissioning activities in test laboratories and customer environments, including Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with cyber security standards, frameworks, and customer‐specific requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
- Contribute to service delivery, continuous improvement initiatives, and customer training related to SCADA and operational control systems.
What You Bring
- Proven experience delivering or supporting technical solutions in SCADA, control, protection, telecommunications, or related engineering disciplines.
- Strong capability in troubleshooting technological or electrical issues within operational or industrial environments.
- Practical experience working with operational or industrial networks and managing virtualised environments such as Hyper‐V or VMware.
- Knowledge of cyber security standards, frameworks, and best practices relevant to control and protection systems.
- Effective communication, organisation, and multi‐tasking skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A positive, proactive approach to learning, with the willingness to develop technical skills through training, mentoring, and hands‐on experience.
