A Snapshot of Your Day As Design Team Leader in Grid Solutions (GA’s & Interfacing), you’ll lead daily briefings, coordinate with cross‑functional teams, and oversee the delivery of HV Substation Protection Engineering documentation. A key part of the role involves mentoring, conducting performance evaluations, providing technical guidance, and fostering a collaborative environment. You’ll also contribute to strategic planning, aligning design initiatives with long‑term goals, while managing multiple projects, liaising with clients, and ensuring alignment with budget, timelines, and compliance standards.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Lead a small team and collaborate with design subcontractors to deliver engineering outputs for panel manufacture and site construction, while supporting team development and training.
- Manage multiple project deliverables, resolving technical and scheduling issues, and fostering a proactive, motivated team environment.
- Ensure quality and efficiency by implementing design change control processes, addressing non-conformances, and allocating resources to meet performance targets.
- Prioritise workloads and maintain compliance with company procedures to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Build strong client relationships by attending meetings, communicating effectively, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive innovation through new tools, design improvements, and coaching of trainees and apprentices, while recognising achievements and supporting business improvement efforts.
What You Bring
- ONC/HNC in Electrical Engineering with proven experience in Electricity Transmission and Distribution, including 2 years in UK Transmission Systems, and familiarity with current standards, technologies, and sustainability practices.
- Proven leadership in resolving technical issues, coordinating design solutions, supporting recruitment, and promoting safe working practices in line with company policies.
- Strong technical expertise in automated panel and cable design tools (e.g., Engineering Base, Elecdes, Eplan), with experience reviewing key engineering documents and applying health and safety standards.
- Effective communicator with solid project management skills, a flexible approach to problem‑solving, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
