A Snapshot of Your Day

As the demand for energy sector infrastructure is rapidly increasing, we are looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This role is within our Financial and Commercial team comprising of Quantity Surveyors (Commercial Contract Managers) working closely with our Project Financial Controllers (Commercial Project Managers) and Project Accountants, who together are responsible for the cost and commercial management of our extensive portfolio of complex high voltage substation projects across the United Kingdom. How You\’ll Make an Impact

You will be responsible for the following across an identified portfolio of projects:

  • Overseeing and providing supervision, support and guidance to Quantity Surveyors (Commercial Contract Managers) working within your portfolio.
  • Acting as an initial point of escalation for commercial and contractual issues.
  • Liaising with Stakeholders within our Customer and Joint Venture organisations at senior levels.
  • Providing expertise as required on specific Project matters.
  • Reporting commercial data across Projects at Portfolio level.
  • Ensuring accurate and high-quality reporting of key commercial indicators for the projects within your remit
  • Monitoring adherence to the commercial processes and standards required by the business.
  • Developing and improving contract and claim management processes and strategies.For a particular project within your identified portfolio

What You Bring

  • Experience in quantity surveying / contract management and/or commercial project management.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Construction and Engineering Forms of Contract; extensive experience with the NEC Contract. (familiarity with FIDIC and MF/1 desirable in addition).
  • Experience with M&E + Civil construction technologies would be advantageous.
  • Experience in setting up and negotiating terms and conditions of subcontracts.
  • Experience in project budgeting, financial management of risk, opportunities and claims.
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor would be advantageous (RICS / CICES).
  • An understanding the principles of contract law.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Good negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • A willingness to share knowledge to further develop team strength and capability.
