Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software. The IES division develops CAPITAL, a software suite used globally by automotive and aerospace manufacturers and wire harness suppliers to enhance electrical distribution system design and manufacturing flows.
We are looking for 2 students to join our Intern program for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract based out of our office in Altrincham (x1 day per week). Internships are available for IT and Computer Science undergraduates, with successful candidates fully integrated into our existing teams, where they will use and further develop their skills and knowledge on key software engineering and QA projects.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Software Development Manager, you will be working in a small, agile development team focusing on real‑time immersive technology solutions with high‑quality visualisation.
- Acquiring a broad understanding of our products, their domains, and applications.
- Possessing the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative software team.
- Being genuinely interested in technological trends.
- Having the ability to meet deadlines and think creatively about solutions to complex technical problems.
- Constantly striving to enhance the team’s results and the quality of the software.
What You’ll Bring
- Modern Java development in a highly experienced team.
- Agile practices using Scrum or Kanban.
- Computer‑Aided Design and Engineering knowledge.
- Experience with relational databases (Oracle, Postgres).
- Object‑oriented design and development.
- Windows and UNIX operating systems.
- Web‑services and APIs for customer‑specific integration and customisation.
- Highly interactive Web and tablet clients.
- Automated regression testing and a high level of attention to quality.
- Version control using Git.
- Continuous integration using Jenkins.
Interpersonal skills are very important as our Interns report regularly to management and develop a good working relationship with team members based at other Siemens sites in the UK, US and India.
