We are looking for a Second in Department to provide strategic curriculum leadership and high-quality teaching in mathematics and science for students with SEMH needs. This role combines subject specialist expertise with deputy leadership responsibilities, supporting the Centre Lead in operational management while leading on curriculum design, assessment frameworks, and ensuring students access appropriately differentiated learning pathways including Entry Level qualifications, AQA Unit Awards, and functional skills. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for inclusive education, skilled in adapting mainstream curriculum for students working below age-related expectations, and committed to enabling our most vulnerable learners to achieve meaningful qualifications and progress.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic curriculum leadership in mathematics and science for students with SEMH needs.
  • Support the Centre Lead in operational management and contribute to deputy leadership responsibilities.
  • Lead on curriculum design and assessment frameworks to ensure differentiated learning pathways.
  • Ensure access to appropriate qualifications, including Entry Level qualifications, AQA Unit Awards, and functional skills.
  • Advocate for inclusive education and adapt mainstream curriculum for students working below age-related expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enable vulnerable learners to achieve meaningful qualifications and progress.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent qualification.
  • Specialist qualification or expertise in Mathematics or Science.
  • Experience teaching KS3, KS4 (and KS5 if applicable).
  • Proven experience teaching in specialist inclusion provisions such as alternative provision, SEMH schools, PRUs, or specialist resource bases with evidence of successful student outcomes.
  • Experience delivering Entry Level qualifications, AQA Unit Awards, and functional skills with understanding of modular accreditation and personalised learning pathways.
