We seek an individual who can demonstrate engagement with contemporary challenges within the built environment, sustainability, and energy efficiency. The successful candidate needs to be knowledgeable and self-organised in keeping abreast of developments in regulations, standards, industry guidance, and technical developments. They should be driven to understand challenges and seek design solutions in collaboration with internal and external design teams.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, coordination, and management of mechanical systems for diverse building projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and client requirements. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Managing project timelines.
- Mentoring junior engineers.
- Serving as a key technical lead within the organisation.
- Delivering the mechanical engineering consultancy process across all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work.
- Developing coordinated and efficient designs.
- Representing the company on projects of various scales.
Technical tasks include:
- Defining and developing project briefs to deliver mechanical engineering and fire protection systems.
- Designing and detailing mechanical and fire engineering systems.
- Preparing detailed design drawings suitable for presenting concepts to clients and other design professionals.
- Keeping abreast of project design developments with architectural, structural, and services constraints.
- Advising other construction team professionals on their activities related to building services.
- Illustrating concepts and preparing written reports.
- Understanding and delivering net zero carbon and energy-conscious designs.
- Implementing programs to improve service quality and minimise costs.
- Promoting quality issues with all team members.
- Keeping current on new developments in innovative design.
- Preparing complete packages of tender information.
- Monitoring and reporting on the quality and progress of work on site.
People responsibilities include:
- Working within a team environment and leading mechanical design delivery teams.
- Providing and managing project/team specific activities.
Financial responsibilities involve:
- Managing projects to achieve client satisfaction and profitability targets.
- Understanding workload forecasting as new projects are secured.
Marketing responsibilities include:
- Identifying new work opportunities with clients and other professionals.
Skills and qualifications required:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services Engineering or other relevant design & engineering degree.
- Professional Engineer (CEng or equivalent).
- Technically competent in Building Regulations, CDM, British Standards, and best practices.
- Good communicator.
- Current experience with Bluebeam Review, Navisworks, REVIT, Microsoft Office suites.
- Proven experience in leading engineering projects and teams.
