Job Description
About the role
We are looking for a Lead Technology and Geopolitics Analyst to join our team on our Technological Risk Desk, reporting to our Strategic Insights Manager. This is a role for someone who understands that the most consequential risks of the coming decade will be shaped by technology: by the rise of artificial intelligence, the advent of quantum computing, and the ways in which these developments are redrawing the boundaries of geopolitical competition, national security, and economic power.
You will help define Sibylline’s intellectual agenda in this space, produce original analysis for a range of clients, and contribute to the broader conversation around technological risk. This is a hybrid role, requiring to be in our London office 2 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Analyse the geopolitical implications of technological change by tracking and interpreting how AI, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies are reshaping great-power competition, military capabilities, economic statecraft, and global governance
- Translate complex technical developments into clear, actionable strategic insight
- Produce original research and client deliverables and write high-quality analysis across formats including assessments, briefings, and longer-form research
- Contribute to Sibylline’s core products, including the World Risk Register, and support bespoke client work as required
- Monitor the technology risk landscape by maintaining current, comprehensive knowledge of developments in AI policy and regulation, quantum research and its security implications, the militarisation of emerging technologies, and the strategic competition driving investment in these areas globally
- Support thought leadership by contributing to Sibylline’s external profile through publications, media commentary, and engagement with conferences and roundtables in the technological risk space
- Collaborate across desks and work closely with Sibylline’s regional and thematic teams to integrate technological risk perspectives into broader analytical products, and with the Strategic Insights Desk on cyber and technological risk deliverables.
Requirements
- A strong grounding in technological risk and geopolitics. You do not need to be a technical specialist, but you should have a genuine understanding of how emerging technologies work and why they matter strategically.
- Experience with AI development trajectories, quantum computing timelines, and the policy debates surrounding both
- A background in intelligence analysis, policy research, or a related field, with demonstrable engagement with technological risk topics
- Analytical clarity and strong written communication - ability to write with precision and authority for a range of audiences, from government clients and C-suite stakeholders to broader public-facing channels
- Curiosity and intellectual range - an ability to connect technological developments to broader geopolitical dynamics, from the future of AI in defence to the implications of quantum breakthroughs for cryptography and national security
- A background in intelligence analysis, policy research, or a related field, with demonstrable engagement with technological risk topics
- Preferred prior experience in government, academia, private sector, or a research institution
- Collaborative and adaptable - comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
- Able to manage multiple workstreams, meet deadlines, and contribute positively to a close-knit team.
