We are looking for a self‑motivated and enthusiastic Mineral Planning & Estates Surveyor to assist in the acquisition of new mineral reserves and ensure planning permissions are delivered to enable their working. The role involves identifying, assessing, and securing new land and mineral opportunities with potential for future development, and providing expert advice to the operational business to ensure license to operate is maintained.
Responsibilities
- Manage and assist in the development of the Sibelco UK Mineral Estate portfolio comprising freehold, leasehold and optioned land.
- Assist in the acquisition of new mineral reserves for the sand and clay businesses in the UK.
- Work closely with landowners and/or agents to ensure progress of land acquisition targets and planning applications.
- Promote strategic land assets within Local Development Plans and, if required, represent the Company’s interests at examinations in public.
- Engage with local planning authorities to promote sites and discuss development proposals through formal and informal routes.
- Liaise with and advise Operational and Commercial colleagues on site development, estates management, planning and environmental issues linked to the development of UK assets.
- Assist in the maintenance of and further develop the UK land asset database linking data into the company’s GIS system.
- Contribute towards Sibelco planning projects and associated Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
- Manage and instruct consultancy teams in accordance with the company’s procedures.
- Engage with stakeholders to develop relationships and participate in local liaison events at UK sites to keep local communities engaged in the company’s activities.
- Assist with the implementation of policies, strategies and guidelines from Global Sustainability.
Qualifications
- Ideally Chartered Minerals Surveyor with RICS qualification or Chartered Town Planner with RTPI qualification.
- Experience of working in the extractive industry.
- Ability to build rapport with a variety of people from all backgrounds.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint (ideally at advanced level).
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to landlords as well as colleagues.
- Strong problem‑solver with agility and a proactive approach to work.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Adaptable, flexible with the ability to work to numerous pressurised deadlines.
- Excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel around UK sites. (Note: Occasional travel overseas may be required dependent on business needs).
