A small, specialist engineering company based in Teesside is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team. The company designs and manufactures bespoke material handling equipment, with a particular focus on chutes.
Due to continued growth and investment in new technologies, this is an excellent long-term opportunity for a locally based engineer who thrives in a hands-on design office environment and is looking to make a meaningful impact within a close-knit team.
Responsibilities
- Producing detailed mechanical designs and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor
- Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate chute designs and ensure structural integrity
- Supporting the implementation and use of Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) software (Altair) to simulate material flow
- Collaborating closely with fabrication and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with manufacturing processes
- Taking ownership of design projects from concept through to completion
- Contributing to design improvements and the development of bespoke solutions tailored to customer needs
Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the material handling or heavy industrial sectors
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor with strong 3D modelling and detailing skills
- Practical experience conducting FEA as part of the design process
- Familiarity with DEM software, particularly Altair, is highly desirable
- Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a small team
- Ideally based in the Teesside area or willing to relocate for a long-term opportunity
