An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing construction team in Middlesbrough to work on a major infrastructure project in North London. This role offers the chance to take ownership of the commercial management of subcontract works, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and in line with contractual obligations. About the Role
Based on-site, you will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of subcontract packages, working closely with project teams and key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. You will play a vital role in cost control, valuations, change management, risk mitigation, and maintaining strong commercial relationships throughout the project lifecycle. This is a full-time, site-based position working Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Administer subcontract agreements in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim applications for payment.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and commercial performance.
- Manage variations, compensation events, and change control processes.
- Support the procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate records of labour, plant, materials, and site progress.
- Assist with the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and project health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with site teams, project managers, planners, and client representatives to achieve successful project outcomes.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Construction, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry.
- Strong commercial awareness with a thorough understanding of construction contracts and risk allocation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience working with standard forms of construction contracts, including NEC and/or FIDIC.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading commercial meetings with senior project stakeholders.
- Knowledge of program management software.
- Leadership and team collaboration experience.
