An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to join a leading construction team in Middlesbrough delivering a major industrial infrastructure project in North London. This role is responsible for leading all Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) activities relating to structural steel erection, welding, inspection, and documentation, ensuring work is completed to the highest quality standards and in full compliance with project requirements. We welcome applications from candidates seeking either a permanent position or those interested in working on a PAYE day rate basis. A bout the Role Working on-site, you will lead the implementation and management of the project's Quality Management System, overseeing inspections, welding quality, non-destructive testing (NDT), documentation, audits, and quality compliance throughout the construction phase. You'll work closely with site management, engineering, HSE teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure quality standards are consistently achieved. The working pattern is 11 days over a fortnight, with 3 days off every other week. Responsibilities Implement and maintain the project's Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 standards. Develop and manage Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Control Plans, and quality programmes. Ensure all quality activities comply with contractual and project requirements. Coordinate inspection and testing activities for structural steel erection, bolting, welding, and alignment. Lead all welding quality assurance activities, including review of WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications. Coordinate and oversee all Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and ensure compliance with acceptance criteria. Manage QA/QC inspectors and conduct routine site quality inspections. Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, material traceability, and relevant industry standards. Maintain comprehensive quality documentation, including inspection reports, material certificates, calibration records, and digital QA systems. Prepare and compile final quality documentation for project handover. Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, audits, and defect close-out processes. Promote continuous improvement and maintain high-quality standards across all site activities. Key Skills & Experience Essential Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline. Proven experience in a QA/QC leadership role on large industrial or construction projects. Extensive knowledge of structural steel erection and welding quality assurance. CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector qualification. Strong understanding of: ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems BS EN 1090 Welding standards (ISO, EN and/or ASME) Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) Welding inspection, NDT coordination, and material traceability. Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills. Desirable NDT Level 2 certification (PCN/CSWIP). ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification. CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector. Experience working on heavy industrial, energy, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects. What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience.
