A well-established Chartered Accountancy practice in Huddersfield is looking to recruit an experienced Business Services Accountant to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with practice experience who enjoys working with a varied portfolio of SME clients and providing high-quality accounting and advisory services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing statutory accounts, corporation tax returns and management accounts, while building strong relationships with clients and supporting them with their day-to-day accounting requirements. The role offers exposure to a broad range of businesses across multiple sectors, along with genuine opportunities for continued professional development within a supportive and collaborative practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of SME clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current accounting standards.
  • Prepare corporation tax returns and supporting computations.
  • Produce regular management accounts and financial reports for clients, providing clear and accurate financial information.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted point of contact for day-to-day accounting queries.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and resolve any outstanding queries efficiently.
  • Review bookkeeping records and identify any adjustments required before accounts preparation.
  • Assist clients with accounting software queries and promote efficient financial processes where appropriate.
  • Ensure all work is completed within agreed deadlines and in accordance with internal quality standards.
  • Keep up to date with changes in accounting, tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider practice to deliver an excellent client experience.

About the Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a strong background working within a UK accountancy practice and will be confident managing a varied workload while delivering an excellent service to SME clients. They will also demonstrate:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified with 5+ years' experience, or AAT qualified or qualified by experience with 5+ years' relevant practice experience.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts, corporation tax returns and management accounts.
  • Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and corporation tax compliance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • A proactive approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
