The Role: As a Production Operator, you will be working at a COMAH chemical manufacturing plant, supporting site production capabilities while ensuring all equipment is operated in accordance with SIG’s ZERO EHS impact philosophy. You will adhere to site standards, procedures, and legislation while contributing to continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency. This role operates on an 8-hour, 6 on 4 off rota, with the flexibility to provide cover on a 12-hour shift rota when needed, including covering absences, holidays, and gaps in the rota.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Maintain workplace organisation using 5S quality principles and related practices.
- Act as the "Asset Owner," executing operator work processes to maximise yield and minimise waste.
- Update and manage data on Short Interval Control (SIC) boards and maintain detailed logbooks.
- Collaborate with Production Management, Maintenance, and Engineering to identify and resolve root causes of mechanical downtime.
- Work with the Production Coordinator and Engineering to complete process improvements and rate tests for optimal operating conditions.
- Conduct in-process sampling and analytics to verify product quality.
- Ensure compliance with Management of Change (MOC) procedures within your assigned work area.
- Issue work permits and ensure maintenance work orders are written and followed up.
- Carry out start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers, maintenance preparation, and LOTO procedures safely and efficiently to minimise downtime and maximise production.
- Collaborate with Production Engineers to carry out updates and changes in line with their requirements.
- Adhere to ISO-9002 policies and procedures as outlined by the approved ISO Standard and Programs.
- Participate in ISO program audits to improve execution and maintain compliance with SI and regulatory standards.
- Drive LEAN/Six Sigma initiatives to continuously improve processes and operational efficiency.
- Actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through collaboration, training, and engagement in company meetings.
- Ensure tasks are completed using defined, measurable, and continuously improved work processes while proactively identifying and leveraging best practices across SI.
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
- Education to A Levels or higher, preferably in science or mathematics.
- Knowledge of relevant technical equipment, reliability drivers, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Proficiency in 5S and other lean management principles.
- Strong decision-making and judgement skills aligned with department objectives.
- Understanding of maintenance standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
- Practical problem-solving skills to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
- Prior chemical production experience is advantageous.
- Ability to provide cover on a 12-hour shift rota when required.
