About the Film
The Unit
is a psychologically intense, actor-driven feature set largely within a contained institutional environment. The visual world is minimal, controlled, and emotionally charged. Set design plays a crucial narrative role in reinforcing themes of surveillance, confinement, and psychological pressure.
This is a collaborative independent production designed for festival circulation and long-term value.
The Role
We are seeking a
Set Designer / Production Designer
to help shape the visual identity of the film\'s primary location(s). The role involves working closely with the director and DOP to create a believable, unsettling environment that supports performance and story.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and dress key interior locations (psychiatric unit setting)
- Develop a cohesive visual language aligned with the film\'s tone
- Source, adapt, or modify existing locations where required
- Manage props, textures, and spatial continuity
- Collaborate with camera, lighting, and costume departments
- Work efficiently within a low-budget, creative framework
Ideal Profile
- Experience in narrative film, short or feature length
- Strong visual storytelling instincts
- Comfortable working with restrained, minimalist environments
- Practical and resourceful approach to design
- Collaborative mindset and clear communication
- London-based or able to work in London
