BASEC, part of Kiwa UK group, is seeking a Cable Preparation Technician to join our team in Milton Keynes. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for preparing product samples using a range of hand and power tools, ensuring they are ready for technical testing by our engineers.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain or develop practical experience in a laboratory environment.
Overview:
- Work with the M&E Lead to prioritise cable samples for preparation.
- Undertake product testing under supervision until competent, including (but not limited to) conductor resistance, insulation thickness, flash testing, voltage testing, tensile strength and elongation measurements.
- Maintain clear communication with colleagues to ensure timely workflow and efficient handover of prepared samples to technicians.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained and used safely.
- Support the general upkeep and smooth running of the lab, adhering to all quality, safety, and housekeeping procedures.
- Effectively manage your workload and collaborate with team members to optimise lab operations.
Responsabilities:
- Excellent attention to detail.

- Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality responsibilities.
- Experience of working within an engineering/industrial environment preferred, but not essential.

- Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
Qualifications:
- £26,227.50 per annum
- Generous Annual Leave – Starting at 25 days plus Bank Holidays, with the option to buy additional leave and increased entitlement with length of service
- 37.5 hours per week – Monday-Thursday 7am to 3.30pm & Friday 7am to 12.30pm, lab-based role
