The Structural Steel Ironworker will be required to assemble or erect steel as required for equipment, interpret shop drawings, perform complex riggings, and precisely install equipment, machinery, or components, including anchoring, leveling, and aligning. A large component of this position is the ability to read and process information for construction or fabrication.
Job Responsibilities
- Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to and from buildings, bridges, and other structures.
- Read and follow blueprints, sketches, and other instructions.
- Unload and stack prefabricated iron and steel so that it can be lifted with slings.
- Signal crane operators who lift and position structural and reinforcing steel.
- Use shears, rod-bending machines, torches, hand tools, and welding equipment to cut, bend, and weld the structural and reinforcing steel.
- Align structural and reinforcing steel vertically and horizontally, using tag lines, plumb bobs, lasers, and levels.
- Connect steel with bolts, wire, welds.
- Install metal decking used in building construction.
Job Requirements
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Must possess valid identification to work in the United States.
- Ability to pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
- Knowledge of structural design, planning principles, and procedures.
- Ability to work multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment such as glasses, face masks, gloves, work boots, harnesses, and other PPE relevant to the job site.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing over 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; see and hear naturally or with correction.
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to set procedures.
- Perform repetitive movements.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of Ironwork experience.
