About the Role
Are you a hands-on Design Engineer who thrives on turning complex customer requirements into smart, manufacturable solutions? SHS Handling Solutions is looking for a talented engineer to join our R&D team and act as the critical link between Sales and Manufacturing.
You'll work on a varied range of projects — from adapting existing equipment to designing fully bespoke solutions — in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where your ideas genuinely shape the product.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design & Development
- Creating equipment designs, layouts, and technical drawings to a high standard
- Developing in-house solutions when off-the-shelf products can't meet the brief
- Ensuring every design is practical, cost-effective, and ready to manufacture
- Sales Support & Technical Input
- Collaborating with Sales to understand and shape customer requirements
- Providing technical input for proposals and feasibility assessments
- Helping qualify opportunities based on complexity and commercial viability
- Supplier & Manufacturing Collaboration
- Engaging with external suppliers to source or adapt existing products
- Working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility
- Providing technical support through build and delivery stages
- R&D & Innovation
- Contributing to new product development where commercially viable
- Supporting continuous improvement of existing product lines
- Assessing scalability and wider market potential of new solutions
What We're Looking For
- Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Design Engineering
- Strong CAD skills — SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor or similar
- Proven experience designing equipment or engineered products
- Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and specifications
- Desirable
- Experience with bespoke or custom-built equipment
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials
- Experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers
