Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Shropshire Council’s Health Protection Team as an Environmental Health Practitioner.

In this role you will work in a busy team overseeing private water supply sampling and risk assessment programmes, including wider regulatory work that helps protect residents, support businesses and promote safe, fair trading across Shropshire.

At the heart of the role is working to protect public health, support business compliance and enhance community wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Support regulatory projects, inspections, investigations and complaints.
  • Conduct sampling of private water supplies and perform risk assessments.
  • Collect, analyse and maintain accurate database records.
  • Consider appropriate enforcement options and support innovative compliance activity across domestic and commercial supplies.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and communicate statutory requirements to colleagues, businesses, partner agencies and members of the public.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Motivated to learn and self‑directed.
  • Well‑organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Customer‑focused and able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience or training in environmental health, water supply regulation or a related field is desirable.
