We are seeking a dedicated Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) Driver to join Shropshire Council's Passenger Transport Group and provide exceptional public transport services. We are looking for a confident, customer‑focused driver who enjoys helping people and takes pride in delivering a high‑quality service. You should be polite, friendly and supportive, with experience in a similar driving role and a valid PCV Cat D or Cat D1 licence (Cat D1 (101) will also be considered).
As Connect On‑Demand uses smart mobile technology to manage bookings and routing, you'll be comfortable using a smartphone as part of your daily work. You may also need to assist passengers in using the Connect On‑Demand app or help them understand how the service works. You don't need to be an expert – just confident with everyday technology. Full training will be provided.
We're a small, close‑knit team looking for someone who values teamwork, brings a positive attitude, and enjoys engaging with the community. If you like variety in your day, enjoy meeting new people, and want to be part of an innovative service that's helping residents stay connected, we'd love to hear from you.
Shropshire Council is a unitary authority which serves the rural county of Shropshire. One of the most important things about working here is the knowledge that you're working to help others and the real sense of achievement and purpose that brings. The people of Shropshire are rightly proud of their county's assets, its natural beauty, its history, its diverse economy and its vibrant culture.
Connect On‑Demand is Shropshire Council's flexible, bookable public transport service designed to help residents, particularly in rural and hard‑to‑reach areas, access essential services, work, education, shopping, and social opportunities. Since launching in December 2023, the service has grown rapidly, providing thousands of journeys and becoming a vital lifeline for many communities that previously had limited or no access to public transport.
As a Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) Driver, you will be an important part of this innovative service. Unlike traditional fixed‑route buses, Connect On‑Demand uses smart routing technology to match customer bookings with vehicles in real time, meaning no two days are the same. You'll deliver safe, comfortable and reliable journeys using our modern fleet, while supporting customers who may be elderly, isolated, disabled or simply needing a more flexible alternative to conventional bus travel.
This role is much more than driving – it's about providing a friendly face, offering reassurance, helping people stay connected, and being part of a service that continues to transform how transport works across Shropshire.
This part‑time role involves 20 hours per week on a rota basis, with shifts between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. We value our employees and offer staff rewards and plenty of opportunities for personal development, apprenticeships and career progression. Generous annual leave commencing at 28 days, increasing with service to 33 days (pro rata for part time). With additional annual leave purchase policy. Access to a benefits platform with a wide range of retail discounts and salary sacrifice schemes (cars, bikes, AVCs). Employer contribution Pension Scheme Shropshire County Pension Fund. Supportive carers and parental policies (maternity, paternity, adoption leave, special leave). Many opportunities for flexible and agile working; we offer a hybrid model of working to promote flexible working around personal and family commitments. Access to counselling and occupational health services. Staff networks.
