This position focuses on breast imaging services, including breast screening, diagnostics, and participation in multidisciplinary pathways such as the one-stop breast clinic. Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical breast imaging services, including mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, and image-guided interventional procedures.
- Collaborate closely with the Breast Screening Programme to deliver high-quality and comprehensive breast cancer screening services, adhering to NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines.
- Contribute to the delivery of one-stop breast clinics, ensuring timely and accurate diagnosis whilst maintaining compassionate communication with patients.
- Participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) discussions and meetings, offering expertise to develop and implement cohesive patient care plans.
- Supervise, mentor, and support trainees, radiographers, and junior clinicians, contributing to professional development within the department.
- Support the development and evaluation of diagnostic protocols, ensuring the adoption of innovative and effective practices and procedures.
- Take an active role in the continuous improvement of service delivery and maintain high standards of clinical governance in collaboration with fellow consultants.
- Engage in service development projects and contribute to research and audits to advance the standards of breast imaging services.
Qualifications
Essential:
- GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Completion of training in Diagnostic Radiology (CCT or equivalent) with subspecialty expertise in Breast Imaging.
- FRCR (or an equivalent international qualification).
- Comprehensive experience in all areas of breast imaging, including screening, diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and interventional techniques.
- Strong commitment to patient-centred care and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Proven ability to organise and manage workloads effectively, delivering high-quality outcomes efficiently.
Desirable:
- Previous experience within an NHS Breast Screening Programme context.
- Publications or involvement in research projects related to radiology or breast imaging.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and experience in implementing service improvements.
