We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Practice Nurse to join a friendly and supportive GP practice in the Newport area of South Wales. This is a maternity cover position offering 2–3 days per week, with flexibility on working days. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, primarily through treatment room duties and supporting the management of long-term conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Treatment Room Duties
- Wound care and dressings (including complex wounds)
- Immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines where applicable)
- Cervical cytology (smear tests)
- Blood pressure monitoring and NHS health checks
- Phlebotomy
- ECG recording
- Infection prevention and control procedures
- Supporting reviews for patients with chronic conditions such as:
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- COPD
- Hypertension
Person Specification
- Essential
- Practice Nurse with valid NMC registration
- Previous experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting
- Competent in treatment room skills including immunisations and cytology
- Experience in managing or supporting long-term condition reviews
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Chronic disease management qualifications or training
- Experience using GP clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne)
- Up-to-date mandatory training
