ShortList Recruitment has an opportunity for a Junior QA Engineer to join our client based in Stockport. The successful candidate will receive training and take responsibility for key aspects of software testing, working closely with an experienced development team in a fast-moving, evolving technical environment.

Previous exposure to software testing is desirable but not essential. The Junior QA Engineer role would suit a recent graduate in Computer Science or a related discipline, or someone early in their career who is keen to build hands-on experience in QA and software delivery. Any scripting or coding knowledge would be beneficial, along with an interest in learning test automation over time.

Responsibilities
  • Perform manual testing on new features, fixes and enhancements
  • Execute and maintain regression test packs to support regular releases
  • Log and track defects clearly, working closely with developers to resolve issues
  • Collaborate with product and engineering to understand requirements and expected behaviour
  • Take part in Agile ceremonies and learn QA best practices through on-the-job mentoring

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related discipline

Some exposure to software testing, QA, or technical analysis (commercial or academic)

Basic technical understanding (e.g. SQL, APIs, DevOps tools or web applications)

Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in developing a career in QA

Good attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach to work

The Junior QA Engineer will receive a salary of up to £32,000 plus benefits. This is a hybrid role based in Stockport, with two days per week onsite. It is commutable from Manchester, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Northwich and Warrington.
