ShortList Recruitment are working with a well-established, technology-led business based near Chester who are looking to appoint a Lead IT Engineer to take ownership of their internal IT infrastructure. This is a hands-on senior role where you will act as the primary technical lead, leading and mentoring a small IT support function. You will maintain and enhance a Microsoft-centric, Azure-based environment while driving security and operational best practice. This opportunity is ideal for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer or experienced 3rd Line Engineer looking to step into a leadership role with real autonomy and visibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the senior escalation point and lead a small IT function
- Support and optimise Azure-hosted infrastructure and Microsoft 365 environments
- Administer Azure AD (Entra ID), Windows Server and Active Directory
- Own backup, disaster recovery, patch management and security best practice
- Manage firewall, network security and third-party IT suppliers
- Contribute to infrastructure improvement and modernisation projects
Experience Required
- Strong background in 3rd Line Support or Infrastructure Engineering
- Experience supporting Azure-based infrastructure (IaaS)
- Microsoft 365 and Azure AD / Entra ID administration
- Windows Server & Active Directory expertise
- Backup, disaster recovery and network/firewall management
- Experience mentoring or leading others (formal management not essential)
