Pay Rate: Up to £42,000 per annum + Overtime

Shifts: 4 On, 4 Off. Days and Nights

4 weeks of days / 4 weeks of nights

Day Shift: 07:00-16:30

Night Shift: 21:00-06:00

Shift allowance from £3,000 to £6,000+ per year

Start date: ASAP

Duration: Permanent

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join our engineering workshop, supporting the machining and refurbishment of core Rolling Stock Vehicle components - including wheel pans and axles - for rail freight wagons. Working within a small, dedicated team in the Wheel Shop, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality components essential to the maintenance and overhaul of rail freight rolling stock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate multiple machines, including CNC milling machines (Siemens XYZ or equivalent) and manual lathes.
  • Fully machine parts using 3-axis VMCs, ensuring precision and quality at all stages.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure on-time delivery of components.
  • Load offline programs and collaborate with production engineers to optimise setups.
  • Save and document all programs and setup sheets after each job.
  • Assist Shift Leaders and Engineers with tooling and material requirements.
  • Ensure safe operation of all machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain workshop standards and keep machines clean and well presented.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Previous experience with Siemens XYZ (or equivalent) CNC machines and competent manual lathe operation.
  • Ability to work either of the advertised shift patterns.
  • Flexibility, proactive attitude, and a positive approach to tasks.
  • Strong organisation, communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work extended hours or weekends when required.
