The Senior Field Service Engineer is responsible for maintaining and repairing client assets across various sites nationwide within the rail and related industries. The role requires extensive travel, a high level of technical expertise, and leadership skills to mentor junior staff and handle complex engineering tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled maintenance and repairs on client assets within depots.
  • Respond to reactive callouts as instructed by the Divisional Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Adhere to company policies, operational procedures, and safety standards.
  • Complete and submit job sheets, PPM forms, and site reports daily.
  • Act as the first point of contact for clients on-site, ensuring professional communication.
  • Maintain a company vehicle, tools, PPE, and report any defects or incidents promptly.
  • Participate in on-call duties, engineering meetings, and safety briefings.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, signing off their work and providing technical guidance.
  • Stay overnight when required, with accommodation arranged as per business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including PPE, method statements, risk assessments, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records, including timesheets and maintenance documentation.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Extensive engineering experience, preferably in the rail sector.
  • Qualified and time-served in Electrical and Mechanical systems.
  • Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification within three months of employment.
  • Understanding of CWM, CET, and fuelling systems.
  • Competent with the use of tools and equipment, and IT skills for reporting.
  • Ability to work independently, lead jobs, and mentor junior staff.
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required.
  • Good communication skills, professional presentation, and adherence to safety standards.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work extended hours and be on-call.
  • Ability to travel nationwide, with a preference for nearer sites when possible.
  • Maintain a professional standard of PPE and vehicle condition.
  • Ability to read and understand method statements, risk assessments, and WPP.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
