We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Skilled Centreless Grinder to join a precision engineering manufacturing environment, reporting directly to the Production Manager.
This role is ideally suited to someone with an engineering background, preferably within the aerospace sector, who can confidently set and run centreless grinding machines while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
You will play a key part in driving productivity, reducing waste, and supporting a zero-defect culture through continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Set and run centreless grinding machines including Wickman Scrivener, Ghiringhelli, Cincinnati, or Tschadun grinders (essential).
- Operate Myford grinders (desirable).
- Safely support 2nd operation machines as required - including thread rolling (desirable), part marking, drill banks, depitching presses, torque testers and manual/rotary deburring.
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspections of 1st and 2nd operation parts.
- Perform buddy checks to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain machine efficiency to support On-Time Delivery, Arrears, Parts Per Hour (PPH) and KPI targets.
- Proactively reduce scrap and rework, feeding back improvement ideas to the Production Manager.
- Complete daily maintenance checks and cycle time documentation.
- Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety procedures, including correct use of PPE.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment at all times.
- Proven experience setting and running manual centreless grinders.
- Strong understanding of aerospace quality standards (highly desirable).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Confident using measuring equipment, particularly micrometres, and working to tight tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent numeracy skills.
- A proactive team player with good communication skills.
- Commitment to quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
