Shorterm Group is recruiting on behalf of a well-established precision manufacturing business seeking an experienced Production Planner / MRP Controller to support and optimise manufacturing operations in line with customer delivery, flexibility, and business growth objectives. This is a key operational role focused on production planning, ERP/MRP optimisation, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement within a high-precision engineering environment.

Prime Objective

To plan and control manufacturing operations to optimise customer service, delivery performance, and flexibility, while supporting business growth through the effective use and development of ERP/MRP systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyse Sales Order (SO) requirements, identifying risks, constraints, and capacity issues
  • Create and maintain machine shop production plans, highlighting risks and managing recovery actions
  • Progress and expedite material and capacity shortages to achieve OTDIF targets and reduce lead times
  • Issue work orders and job packs, agreeing throughput targets with the Works Manager
  • Communicate risks and exceptions clearly to enable recovery planning
  • Review and amend routings and ERP data to suit a changing production environment
  • Support the implementation, development, and effective use of production scheduling and ERP software
  • Liaise daily with customers to ensure clear and effective communication
  • Collect and analyse production data from key machines and operations
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives across departments
  • Maintain a hands-on, collaborative approach as a key member of the production team

Continuous Improvement Responsibilities

  • Ensure production teams complete accurate and timely ERP bookings
  • Report and resolve OTDIF and delivery issues through daily production meetings
  • Agree ROL/ROQ levels for make-to-stock parts and obtain financial approval
  • Develop tools, techniques, and best-practice methods within ERP/MRP systems
  • Produce capacity analysis to identify bottlenecks and support resolution plans
  • Promote visual management methods on the shop floor
  • Support the company-wide rollout of QRM (Quick Response Manufacturing) principles

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years' experience using MRP/ERP and MPS systems within a production planning, logistics, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in a precision component manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of ERP and MRP planning principles
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or higher (or equivalent experience)
  • High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work confidently with IT systems and production data
