Shorterm Group is recruiting on behalf of a specialist precision engineering manufacturer, with this position specifically focused on the maintenance, reliability and performance of CNC machining equipment. The business supplies high-precision components into demanding sectors such as aerospace, automotive, motorsport, oil & gas, marine and defence, where machine uptime, accuracy and repeatability are critical.
This is a site-based, permanent role offering autonomy, stability and the opportunity to take ownership of CNC machine maintenance within a high-quality machining environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and supporting CNC machines, supporting production equipment and associated site infrastructure. The role combines planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and continuous improvement, ensuring minimal downtime and consistent machining performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and maintain a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule for CNC machinery
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime
- Carry out corrective maintenance, component replacement and machine adjustments
- Monitor breakdown trends and recommend improvements to machine reliability
- Support process optimisation, tooling improvements and machine upgrades
- Work with production teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs and spare parts tracking
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and support audit activity
- Manage on-site contractors, ensuring RAMS are in place
- Support new equipment installation and commissioning
- Conduct weekly fire alarm checks
Shift Pattern:
- Monday-Thursday: 08:00-17:00, Friday: 08:00-14:30
- 40 hours per week, days
- Some flexibility subject to business needs
- Overtime available depending on site demand
Candidate Requirements
- Experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a CNC machining or precision engineering environment
- Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance capability
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
- CNC control experience desirable (e.g. Fanuc, Heidenhain)
- Comfortable working independently and managing a broad maintenance remit
- Experience with TPM, lean manufacturing or continuous improvement activities
- Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
