Client Overview: Our client is a leading manufacturer and front-line supplier of powertrain products across the UK and Ireland. Their areas of expertise include engine overhaul, final drive overhaul, and locomotive refurbishment within the rail sector.
Role Overview: We are recruiting a Hydraulics Fitter to support ongoing rail projects at the Burton upon Trent site. This is a bench-based role working as part of a team, stripping and rebuilding mechanical and hydraulic systems on locomotive rafts and transmissions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strip down engines, transmissions, and mechanical components for overhaul
- Build and rebuild transmissions and raft assemblies within the rail industry
- Fit refurbished engines back onto locomotive rafts, including all associated components such as radiators, pumps, tanks, pipework, and electrical looms
- Install, repair, and overhaul hydraulic systems
- Overhaul raft components to required standards
- Read and understand schematic and technical drawings
- Work to realistic build and strip timescales
- Undertake training as required
- Mentor trainees or apprentices when applicable
- Ensure waste is disposed of correctly and in line with site procedures
Candidate Profile:
- Strong mechanical fitting background is essential
- Good knowledge of hydraulics is ideal
- Benchwork experience preferred
- Backgrounds in HGVs, large engines, rolling stock, plant, or heavy goods are ideal
- Understanding of engines, hydraulics, and pneumatics is highly advantageous
Qualifications:
Relevant engineering qualifications are desirable but not essential for experienced candidates.
