About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Field-Based Product Support Engineer to support the maintenance and service of diesel engines used in locomotives. Candidates do NOT need a rolling stock background – we welcome applicants with experience working on diesel engines from HGV, PSC, tractors, agriculture, heavy plant, or related sectors.
The role covers Derby and the wider Midlands region, ideally around Derby and Birmingham, but we are open-minded on exact location. Travel between sites is required and included within the 45 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform planned modifications and reactive maintenance on diesel engines.
Prepare jobs ahead of time (tools, parts, documentation) and communicate directly with customers.
Work independently in the field, delivering safe, high-quality work at customer sites.
Accurately record all work in line with company procedures.
Act as the first point of contact on site to resolve minor issues or escalate as necessary.
Maintain strong professional relationships and uphold the company\’s reputation.
Identify opportunities for additional work or service improvements and report to management.
Role Details & Benefits:
Field-based across Derby and surrounding Midlands – travel time is included within 45 working hours.
Company van provided with fuel and expenses covered.
45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Overtime available at flat rate.
On-call rota every other weekend:
73 per on-call day (paid regardless of call-out)
Additional hourly pay if called out

Ideal Candidate:
Experience working on diesel engines in any sector – rolling stock experience is not essential.
Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
Confident working independently in a field-based environment.
Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
Ideally NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical discipline.
Full UK driving licence (essential).
