Join Our Team
We are looking for an experienced Stores Person to join our established team at our Leeds Maintenance Facility. Reporting to the Stores Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient movement of materials, picking and packing to support the maintenance, overhaul and repair of locomotives. This role is mobile around the Depot in support of loading and unloading of vehicles using a Counter Balance FLT with regular involvement in warehouse operations and at the counter providing parts and materials to the Technicians in the workshop, making it ideal for someone who is hands-on logistics and enjoys the interaction with a broad range of colleagues.

The Role
As Materials Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring materials are available when required while maintaining accurate stock control and supporting efficient depot operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage goods-in processes, checking deliveries for accuracy and quality.
- Store materials safely and accurately within the warehouse.
- Raise purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
- Prepare materials for dispatch to overhaul suppliers.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles safely.
- Issue materials to production teams.
- Carry out stock counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Expedite supplier orders to minimise operational delays.
- Monitor material usage and stock levels across the site.
- Liaise with the Stores Manager and production teams across multiple business locations.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards to promote safety and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality standards.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Stores Person, ideally with experience of working within a technical stores/parts environment.
- Experience of materials handling, inventory control, logistics or warehouse operations, you will be numerate and have a canny knack for part number recognition.
- Good understanding of procurement and purchasing processes.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of budgets and cost control.
- Commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable
- Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence, CBT with VNA or reach truck desirable.
- Full UK driving licence.
