Job Overview

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation and shaping futures? We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to deliver high-quality, creative, and engaging lessons while effectively supporting and inspiring our students. The role involves providing focused tuition to GCSE resit students, with an emphasis on Functional Skills.

Main Purpose of the Role

As a member of our teaching team, you will:

  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning across our GCSE English and Maths department, engaging students from Level 1 to Level 3.
  • Support the academic and pastoral development of learners, ensuring they are ready to learn and thrive.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, and the wider life of the College.
  • Play an active role in fulfilling the College\’s mission to provide a transformative education that empowers learners and serves our community and employers.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on student progress.
  • Provide academic guidance and pastoral support to help every learner succeed.
  • Make effective use of digital platforms (e.g., Teams, Google Classroom) and emerging tools such as AI to enhance student learning and feedback.
  • Participate in curriculum development, open events, interviews, and student induction activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and support continuous improvement.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety policies.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Qualified to degree in relevant subject or similar.
  • An expert in their subject area, with a strong understanding of progression pathways and enrichment opportunities.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching, with effective strategies to support learners at Levels 1-3 (and Level 4 where appropriate).
  • Confident in using digital tools to engage learners and enhance teaching.
  • Able to balance academic rigor with encouragement and support, motivating students to achieve their full potential.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE/Cert Ed).
  • Professional or industry experience to enrich classroom teaching.
  • Experience in curriculum development, course leadership, or employer engagement.
