This is a fantastic opportunity for applicants to train as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice. The apprenticeship is an advanced pathway for those who already work in school or who are interested in working with children, and can be the first step toward a successful teaching career.
The course runs for two academic years (18‑24 months). On completion you will hold a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship, which can lead to roles such as Teaching Assistant or Qualified Teacher Status.
Applicants should have a keen interest in providing excellent support within a school environment and working as part of a team. Candidates should demonstrate excellent literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills, and have achieved GCSE A‑C (or 9‑5) in English, Maths and a Science subject.
During the apprenticeship you will be paid at least £8.00 per hour (April 2026) for at least 30 hours per week, including the college day, for 52 weeks. You are entitled to at least 28 days of annual leave per year, including bank holidays, which will be paid.
Your assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress, and you will attend college one day per week. You will develop skills and knowledge on and off the job, receiving regular supervision and mentoring from your employer.
On completion you can advance to Senior Teaching Assistant roles or progress to a Foundation Degree, BA Hons, and eventually Qualified Teacher Status, in partnership with Chelmsford College, Canterbury Christ Church University and Anglia Ruskin University.
The apprenticeship itself is free of charge. Costs apply only if you continue to a Foundation Degree, BA Hons or QTS, which may require a small student loan.
