Our client a Blue Chip player in the Utilities Industry are looking for a Management accountant to join their team in Crawley (3 days a week in the office )– producing the monthly management accounts before delivering insights & analysis on financial performance – ensuring the business know & understand their numbers.

You will be a fixed term contract (12 months potentially extending to 18 months) employee.

This is a professional role which includes liaising throughout the business, with regular communication with central finance departments, senior management, non-finance managers and external contractors.

You will also advise operational management on the important issues and impacts arising concerning the financial position of the business.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • You will understand and explain operational and financial performance to managers in a manner that focuses debate and inspires a culture of continuous improvement to exceed targets.
  • Provide insightful and accurate management information to enable Senior Managers to drive improvements. These improvements should be in operational, service quality, and financial performance. This information will also be used in the preparation of the monthly Performance Reports.
  • You will guide improvements to the process of producing monthly financial reports
  • Support the participation of continuous improvement regarding costs and to participate in reviews with the business to understand the reasons for variances and to work with the business to improve efficiency.
  • You will participate with the preparation of Budgets, Medium Term Plans and Forecasts as agreed with the Finance Manager.
  • Identify opportunities and areas for attention & recommend options for action – including areas of cost reduction, best practice governance and controls and excellent strategic prioritisation of expenses
  • Embed financial governance around the appraisal and implementation of any new initiatives or financial processes.
  • To participate with the preparation of Statutory Accounts and supporting tables as agreed with the Finance Manager.
  • Help manage and motivate the departmental team and promote cross working with other teams within the Finance Dept.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Qualified accountant, or near finalist (CIMA/ ACCA/ ACA)
  • Experience of PowerBI is desirable
  • Experience solving business problems
  • Experience challenging the norm
  • Confident in influencing Senior Business Managers
