121 Group is an international events business that enables investors to connect with credible growth stage natural resource projects for capital raising meetings. The event model connects buyside and sell side through pre‑screened investment meetings supported by industry rich conference content and a weekly industry news platform The Assay that covers trends in metals and mining investment. 121 sits within the Energy Transition division of Hyve’s alongside sister brand Mining Indaba that is the largest industry conference and exhibition held annually on the African continent. Together the 121 and MI brands solidify Hyve’s industry leading position supporting stakeholders across the metals and mining sector.
A bit about the role
The Head of Investor Engagement, with a global remit, is a senior leadership role within Hyve’s Energy Transition portfolio. This role leads the investor engagement strategy across 121s series of 5 investment events and rolling subscription product throughout each year. Reporting into the Event Director of 121, the role will require you to be a fast starter, taking hold of the existing investor engagement process and develop a year‑round strategy that feeds into the 121 and MI event cycles as well as wider industry networking events. The investor engagement strategy will acquire and onboard new corporate clients as well as maintaining and renewing existing contracts, and drive acquisition of investors to meet customer needs as part of our high quality product delivery year round. This role focuses on delivering an overall strategy and managing a dedicated team to deliver throughout the year. This individual will work closely with senior Energy Transition portfolio management, marketing, sales, content, product and operations teams to ensure alignment with portfolio’s overall growth objectives.
Responsibilities
- Strategy Development and Execution: Develop and execute an investor engagement strategy to maintain high quality delivery, minimise churn and deliver against agreed targets. Regularly analyse market trends, investor behaviour, and commodities sector conferences landscape to identify new pools of capital for junior miners.
- Targeting, Engagement and Relationship Building: Identify and target potential investors through various channels, including direct outreach, industry events, share register analysis and partnerships. Build compelling relationships with Investor Engagement customers to aid retention and future growth. Work closely with marketing to maintain a robust pipeline of investors and corporates to ensure pipeline of growth and address risks of churn.
- Reporting: Oversee, forecast and report on Investor Engagement delivery, spotting opportunities and mitigating risks.
- Investor Relations fulfilment: Accommodating to the needs of delivery for customers. Assist the team with investor follow up telephone calls. Ensure customer onboarding processes are maintained to a high standard. Review, develop and maintain detailed customer engagement plans. Work with investor acquisition team to build customer meeting schedules associated with each event. Support clients with roadshows, amongst other ad hoc requirements.
- Team leadership and management: Establish clear KPIs for the team, whilst maintaining the quality of delivery. Drive daily rigour in team to hit and exceed targets. Line manage and develop the team to drive a business development mindset and enable data‑led decision‑making.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: Work closely with investor, content and marketing teams inform campaigns for investor acquisition and corporate growth across all brand products. Work closely with sales team to ensure Investor Engagement contract extension conversations are booked and supported with sales presence.
Qualifications
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the global investor landscape in mining / commodities industry and ability to adapt strategies to different markets and investor segments.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, global environment with a diverse team.
- Sector related experience gained within asset management, corporate access or a large listed company is advantageous.
- Experience in managing teams across multiple jurisdictions.
- Conduct and feedback on sector research specific to the range of products within 121.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with clients and investors, including communications with high level C‑suite management.
