Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship at Top Tots Day Nursery Fort Purbrook, Portsmouth. At Top Tots Day Nursery we provide a safe and happy environment that you would expect at home with the fun, stimulating, educational and social environment of a group setting. We have 3 age group rooms: baby room, toddlers and preschool. These are well planned with resources that interest the children and spark curiosity and imagination. We enjoy nothing more than getting messy with craft and being creative.

Our curriculum is challenging, broad and of a high quality which is based on learning through play and extending the children’s interests whilst having high aspirations for them. Children’s individuality is embraced; we might one day be going to the moon and the next working in a robot factory! We use a range of pedagogical strategies and theories to shape the day and give us an understanding of how children learn. Highly qualified staff and apprentices work together to encourage children to be independent learners.

We have excellent parent partnerships, working closely to ensure that care routines are like home and to support with all aspects of children’s development such as potty training. Sharing information is vital; this happens successfully at handovers, through the use of early years software and regular parent/carer evenings. Staff are well trained to identify challenges children may be facing. Their individual needs are well supported through the use of targeted plans and working in conjunction with outside agencies such as Portage and Speech and Language Therapy.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

Main responsibilities:

  • To deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for the children aged 0-5 years.
  • To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for the children, staff, and others.
  • To develop partnerships with parents and carers to increase involvement in their child’s development.
  • To be responsible for any task delegated by the room leader or management.
  • To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship.

Main activities:

  • To provide a safe caring stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors at all times.
  • To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
  • To help ensure the nursery always meets OFSTED requirements.
  • To understand and work to nursery policies and procedures including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents and complaints and emergencies.
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards their next steps.
  • To be a key person to the children.
  • To ensure records are properly maintained for example daily attendance registers, accident forms and risk assessments.
  • To liaise closely with the parents and carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about the progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the nursery aims and objectives.

Requirements:

  • A Level 2 Childcare qualification would be desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in a nursery setting.
  • Preferably have GCSE grades A*-C or 4-9 in Maths and English, or equivalent or willing to work towards them.

Hours:

The setting is open from 7:30am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week.
