We are looking for an experienced Kitchen Assistant to support & work alongside our nursery cook to ensure the preparation and service of a balanced and healthy diet for all children attending the setting.
Working hours
- 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, the nursery is open 7.30am to 6pm all year round and is closed on Bank Holidays.
- Upto £12.21p/h dependent on age/experience.
Experience
- Previous experience of cooking in a professional/commercial kitchen is essential.
- Experience of cooking in children\’s nurseries/schools is preferred.
Key Responsibilities

Operational
- To follow Shooting Stars Nurseries Food Safety Policies and Procedures and to support the wider nursery team to ensure that these policies and procedures are adhered to
- To assist the cook to plan, prepare and serve a suitably balanced rotating menu, whilst considering nutritional guidelines, as well as Government initiatives and healthy eating campaigns
- Ensure that the nutritional needs of the children are met and that Food Safety Regulations are complied with.
- To assist the cook to maintain stock control procedures, and good stock rotation when unpacking and putting away orders

Health and Safety
- To carry out routine health and safety checks and risk assessments
- To maintain hygiene and cleaning standards at all times with regards to food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness, including the prompt removal of kitchen waste

General
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by line management
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures with regards to safeguarding and other employment related policies (for example; social networking, mobile phone, etc)
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures and observe and where appropriate report upon other staff members’ deliverance.
- Ensure the company’s policies on diversity and equal opportunities are adhered to.
